Microdosing is enjoying growing popularity, but which psychedelics are actually suitable for microdosing? In most cases, truffles are used. But it might be interesting to see if there are other mind-altering drugs and what effects they would have. In this blog, we look at what the options are.
What is microdosing and what are the benefits?
Mind-altering drugs have been used for centuries. Sometimes that’s because people just enjoy taking a trip and finding out where their subconscious is taking them. But you can also use psychedelics to find depth and seek mental, emotional and spiritual healing. In fact, using mind-altering substances can also provide many valuable insights and possibly even help with mental disorders such as PTSD and depression.
But psychedelics can have intense effects. If you would like to benefit from the special effects of these substances, but do not want to trip, hallucinate and go on an intense inner journey, you can go microdosing. You then do not use a normal dose, but only 1/10 of it. The dose is so small that the drug will have a subtle effect, but you will not hallucinate. So you can continue to function normally and be able to do your daily things. So you can actually think of microdosing with psychedelics as taking a supplement.
Microdosing is used to support health and your daily functioning. You can benefit physically, mentally and emotionally. It can bring the following benefits:
- Being more in the here and now
- Increase in creativity
- Improved concentration
- Less anxious
- More self-awareness
- Increase in empathy and sense of belonging
- Feeling better about yourself, better mood
- More energy
- Feeling more motivated
- Getting into the flow more easily
- Less procrastination
You can basically use microdosing in all circumstances. Many people benefit from keeping a diary b to note what benefits they notice while microdosing. For example, also set a goal or an intention, in order to be purposeful. But which psychedelics can you use to microdose with now? As mentioned, truffles and magic mushrooms are the best known, but there are other options as well
Mescaline (San Pedro cactus)
Mescaline is not yet widely used for microdosing, but there are known experiences. It is especially a good option, if microdosing with truffles causes a restless feeling in you. Keep in mind that microdosing with a cactus is a bit more complicated, it requires more preparation and the amount of mescaline in a cactus is usually unknown. The percentage of the substance varies more, which means you have to redetermine your optimal dose each time you use a new supply.
An experiment that lasted two months showed a few differences between microdosing with the San Pedro cactus compared to truffles. So this is not an official study, the data comes from users’ experiences.
They indicate that it takes a little longer to notice the effects, usually about an hour and a half. In contrast, the effects last longer, averaging 7 to 10 hours (compared to shrooms or truffles, which last 4 to 6 hours). What do you notice about microdosing with these psychedelics now? The effects on your physical energy are somewhat milder, and it has a calming and relaxing effect. In the process, you may find that you get into a somewhat more philosophical mood. So it seems that microdosing with mescaline has slightly different effects than when using truffles.
LSD
You can also microdose with LSD. Although LSD is a very well-known psychedelic drug and has also been used in research settings for some time, it is not actually used in private situations. This is no wonder, since LSD is on List 1 of the Opium Law and is therefore difficult to obtain. You need very little LSD for a normal trip, only 50 to 150 micrograms. This means that for microdosing, you need even much less and therefore have to be very precise and careful.
Still, it is an interesting tool. Microdosing with LSD could have a positive effect on mood (for example, it helps reduce anxiety and can alleviate depressive symptoms) and it can help restore emotional balance. In addition, it could combat fatigue because it can have a positive effect on energy levels. However, LSD can also have severe side effects. Although it is one of the possible types of psychedelics you can microdose with, it is probably not really suitable in practice.
Cannabis
If you are still looking for a drug suitable for microdosing, cannabis is another option. Weed contains a large amount of active substances, such as THC, CBD, CBG and CBN. All these substances interact with each other, which is called the entourage effect. Consequently, it is becoming increasingly clear from research that cannabis actually has positive effects on health, both physical and mental. Even for cannabis, less may sometimes be better.
By microdosing with cannabis, you won’t suffer from a high or the familiar couch lock or the munchies. People who microdose with marijuana report experiencing better concentration and being more productive. They get into the flow easier and they are more comfortable in their own skin. So cannabis is also one of the psychedelics that can certainly be used for microdosing.
As you can see, you have more options if you want to microdose. In terms of safety and convenience, it is advisable to stick to substances that are easy to dose, such as magic mushrooms, truffles and mescaline cacti. Check out our shop for our selection of microdosing truffles that are ready to use.
